This picture shares one of the middle spreads in the book with the 'thinking phant' sketch. At this point in the story the initial solution to the 'phant problem' has been enacted--and has failed. After the phants piece together what happened, they unexpectedly decide to go along with the failed plan and see it through to completion. So what's with the balloon? Well, lets just say--for now--that balloons are an essential part of the aforementioned plan.
