Thinking Phant bristol vellum pad, page 1, pencil sketch related images: handler with balloon
A sketch for one of the middle spreads in the book, along with the 'balloon-bearing phant handler' sketch. The phants try to decipher the recent bizarre behavior of their human handlers--while the handlers try to come to grips with the phants' continuing unrest. At this point in the story the initial solution to the 'phant problem' has been enacted--and has failed. After the phants piece together what happened, they unexpectedly decide to go along with the failed plan and see it through to completion. Which only deepens the mistery... what are the phants really after?
