- Computer lab activities
- Meet in the computer lab (rm. 1024, 2nd floor).
- Bring your student ID and, if you have it, bring along the CD-ROM from your textbook.
- Follow the directions on the CD-ROM for Elements of Color and Light review and self-test.
- Before leaving the computer, make sure to call the instructor to record your self-test results.
- Class activities
- Present the image you brought from home.
- Show where the colors in the image appear on the color wheel, and explain which of the following color attributes apply to them:
- Color contrast (complementary hues).
- Color harmony (related hues).
- Vivid, pastel, or neutral colors (high, low, and zero saturation).
- Value contrast (high and low luminance).
- What makes this color combination appropriate or inappropriate for this particular image?
- Home activities
- Find and bring to class an image showing one (or more) of the following attributes:
- Implied texture.
- Implied motion.
- Balance (symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial).
- In the textbook, read chapter 7 (pp. 112-125) and read the photography section of chapter 10 (pp. 153-165).
- Your textbook does not show the first photograph. Do you notice anything unusual about the way Niépce's earliest image is lit?
- Extra credit
- This is an optional activity to make up for other activities that you missed (or that you might miss in the future):
- Anytime between now and October 8 (when the show closes), visit the Art Dept Gallery and see
A Tribute to John Parker.
- Record your attendance on the sign-up sheet (ask for it at the front desk of the gallery). This is worth 2 points.
- Write a description of your favorite painting. Mention the technique (Ch. 8) and the visual elements employed. This is worth 5 points.
- Write a description of your favorite print. Mention the printing technique (Ch. 9) and the visual elements employed. This is worth 5 points.
- To retake any of the computer lab activities you may have missed, you can come to the lab during the hours the instructor is scheduled to be there:
- Tuesdays 1:00-3:20 PM.
- Thursdays 7:00-9:50 PM.
