the Fall 1997 "Unix and Communications" classes

These classes will help you communicate with, and use the basic features of, a computer running the Unix operating system--such as the Silicon Graphics (SGI) workstations in the Art Computer Graphics Lab.

Unix, now in continuous development and use for over a quarter of a century, is vitally important to computer artists for at least two reasons:

After these lectures, the ACG150 students will be able to go on to use the ElectroGIG 3DGO 3d animation software on the SGIs. ACG164 students will post Web multimedia to the Netscape Enterprise Server running on the same workstations.
