- Computer lab activities
- Meet in the computer lab (rm. 1024, 2nd floor).
- Bring your student ID and, if you have them, bring along the CD-ROM from your textbook and headphones.
- Follow the directions on the CD-ROM for Oil Painting video demonstrations and self-test.
- Before leaving the computer, make sure to see the instructor to record your self-test results.
- Class activities
- Present the two images you brought from home.
- Explain how actual texture in one image, and thin paint application in the other, change the impression each makes on you.
- Which one better describes the process of painting?
- Which one better serves an external purpose (to tell a story, make a statement, convey an emotion, etc.)?
- Home activities
- Bring to class two images of the same sculpture or craft item, showing the object from different viewpoints, and/or different lighting and environment.
- How does the appearance of the object change?
- What other changes would you experience viewing the actual object?
- Having seen the work firsthand would be beneficial for this exercise.
- In the textbook, read chapters 12, Sculpture (pp. 126-138) and chapter 13, Crafts (pp. 183-190).
- Use the terms learned in your readings to describe the making of the piece shown in the two pictures you are bringing to class.
